Artist's Comments

Whew! This was a tough one. I put a whole heap of thought and work into this sucker lemme tell ya. This image has been in my head for awhile and i finally got around to putting it together. I really concentrated on the compostion, and honestly, i think i did my best work in such regards. There are a whole lot of elements in this compostion, some intended, and some completely by accident, or perhaps by subconscious because the unintended ones follow the intended ones perfectly.

I think this is the best thing ive ever done, over all anyway. Its got a meaning, a nice compostion, the compostion sort of mirrors the meaning, and im pleased with the drawing and painting. As with most things, there are small things that bug me about it, but hey, you can never really get past that.

As always, this looks better in real life, mainly because the pencil lines are darker and not as shiney, but oh well.

I really love this work. Don't worry about the shiny pencil lines or use a 6B pencil for your darkest pencil lines which is softer so you should have to press as hard and you will avoid the shiny problem. Or use a black Carbon pencil which will be very black, and not graphite so no shine. Spray the finished drawing with a matte fixative so the carbon won't smear. Again try this on something like a sample to make sure it doesn't effect the watercolor adversely and accomplishes the look and feel you want. To Avoid the problem alltogether mix ultramarine blue, Thalo Green, and Alizarin Crimson watercolor to make a very dark black, and use a good liner brush and line the drawing with that. Only do this after you have experimented on something you haven't worked so hard on. Another thing you could use for a non shiney black is Higgins India Ink, over the pencil or on the lines you want most black. I would not do anything to this piece because it is very well done, and looks very very good as is. Your work reminds my of Edvard Munch and Nolde both Expressionist (I think). I look forward to seeing what you do next!...Sincerely...Annie

The shininess of the pencil was only a problem resulting from the scan. I use 6b's and matte sprayfix, but the brightness of the scan light just picks up any and all reflection it can.

Thanks, having my work remind someone of Munch is quite a compliment :)

Definitly one of your best. The effort you put in really shows. I rather like how the pencil lines have come out. Is that Michael Jackson on the left?
:iconligoscheffer:
Thanks. I think your seeing this after i editied the scan, to make the pencil lines better, they looked kinda crappy before.

Help! I'm drowning in spaghetti!!!

Yeah, so wow, what a great job on the musculature and anatomy. The pencil lines did come out a bit shiny. I like the nice rich colors. Overall, it reminds me of spelunking.

Man, I love spaghetti.
:iconligoscheffer:
Ya, i know you love spaghetti, which is why i was originally going to title this "Stark attempts to make pasta and fails miserably" See, the characters in the painting are searching though all the runny pasta dough searching for Starks phone, since he obviously cant find it since he NEVER ANSWERS HIS PHONE.

What is this "phone" object that you speak of? Is it some sort of Ethipopian flatbread? I would gladly answer the call of some flatbread. It's ever so good with hummus, or filled with seitan shawerma.....

I like it, though personally out of your work that I've seen I wouldn't say it was my favourite. Not sure why, maybe it's a little rough for my liking. That said it is very impressive. I love the details on the drapery. And the composition is very nice. The shinyness of the pencil looks a little weird, but I'll take your word for it that that is the fault of the scan. Cool piece.

P.s. My sister came in the room and her comment on the piece was "what's this? Eeurgh.. it's freaky. It's cool.. but freaky." Hope you appreciate that. ;)
